The idea for Winter - Alva Ravine was taken from a sketch done on a beautiful day in February 1999. Several studio works have resulted from a winter painting trip to the Algoma where the artist and her parents, also avid painters, spent three weeks at a cabin (see Warm Winter Haven), snowshoeing and painting every day. Winter - Alva Ravine was sketched from the top of a ravine, peering south, down and across Alva Lake.
