During a historical mural project in South Dundas, Cathie studied many old photographs from the pre-season St. Lawrence area. A newspaper clipping of this foreign ship heading west on the Old Williamsburg Canal next to the Long Sault rapids, caught the artist's attention. The Long Sault rapids are now a fading memory since their flooding in 1958.
