About the Artist HEADING_TITLE

Cathie was raised on a 50 acre hobby farm 5 km north of Metcalfe, 20 km. south of Ottawa, Ontario.

The oldest of four children, Cathie spent her childhood and teen years sketching her family, friends, farm animals, forests, ponds and creeks around home.

Frequent camping trips along the Madawaska River, and summer vacations to the east and west coasts of Canada all contributed to a love for the Canadian Landscape and wildlife.

During the years of raising a family, Cathie developed her skills using various mediums through commissions to paint pets, homes, portraits and a variety of subjects.

She enjoys taking month-long painting trips.  Hiking and canoeing the Algoma region north of Sault St. Marie, the Algonquin Park, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Madawaska River region, Québec and various other parts of the country with her parents, also accomplished artists, making oil on panel sketches on location, and taking photos and notes as reference material along the way for larger studio works she creates in her studio near Maniwaki, Québec.

In 2001, Cathie worked in cooperation with the South Dundas mural committee to paint a 16' by 88' full color historical mural depicting the complete Morrisburg waterfront as it was before the Seaway went through in 1958, flooding most of the waterfront.  It includes the Morrisburg-Waddington ferry, various ships, two locks, powerhouse, park, the town of Morrisburg and major through fares.  The mural was installed on the west wall of the "Value Mart" in Morrisburg at the south end of Hwy #31 (Bank Street in Ottawa).

Cathie's work is currently showing at Libby's of Toronto, a prestigious dealer in originals of the Group of Seven and other well known Canadian artists.  Cathie has also shown at the Level Gallery of Collingwood, Ont., and Carlen Gallery in Ottawa, and has exhibited in Morrisburg, Ontario, and Maniwaki, Québec, where she now lives and works.

Self-educated and inspired by her brother Chris Cooper, parents Rudy and Lois Cooper, Cathie continues to explore the Canadian Landscape and share the experience with the world through the medium she loves - oil on canvas.

Cathie spent the summer of 2004 painting Québec villages and Cape Breton Island.  As a Canadian Landscape Artist, Cathie's future plans are to paint the Rocky Mountains and the Queen Charlotte Islands along the West Coast.
