Recalling the River of Yesteryear
Chesterville Record
October 31 2001

Murals were officially unveiled in Morrisburg Saturday. This one, by Morrisburg artist Cathie Cooper-Scrivener, is on the west side of Valumart and depicts pre-Seaway Morrisburg, as seen from the St. Lawrence River, including three boats that played a significant role in the village's history: the Rapid Prince (shown); the Milverton; and the M.S. Morrisburg ferry boat. Junior Cassel, the ferry's last skipper, and Cooper-Scrivener appear at the far right, along with representatives of the sponsoring families - including surnames Bouchard, Cassell, Farlinger, Jones, Laurin, McGillis, Merkley, Thom, and Van Allen, as well as the descendants of Fred and John Meikle.
